Airflow July 2007 - Dadswells Bridge June 2007

Dadswells Bridge June 2007

With recent reports of a promising wave season and an actual flight to 27000 feet, we set off to the magnificent Grampians with our usual enthusiasm and lust for diamonds.

Those who arrived Friday early enough for dinner, were treated to a great feast with John Millott's home made soup the feature.

On Saturday it was off to "Colefield" where we were greeted with a 5-10 knot southerly with just a hint of east, not the required solid westerly, bugger!

Never mind, some good flights were had using the ridge lift generated around Boroka lookout where ther were plenty of tourists to wave at. Roger Harrop and Brian Bull made good use of the club Mosquito on this day. John Millott completed a 20K out and return walk from Old Dadswells Town accommodation to the Briggs Bluff area.

Saturday night dinner was nibbles followed by a BBQ and the usual beer and wine tastings. As usual the thermals got higher and the flights got better as the night went on!

Sunday was mainly a moderate thermal day with the best flights being done by Bob Dorning and John Gwyther who both managed to get as far as Mt William. Roger again did well in the club Mosquito, being airborne for a couple hours. The rest had pleasant flights without being spectacular. Sunday dinner was a shared meal affair with a variety of sumptuous dishes followed by sweets. I don't think anyone left hungary!

Queens Birthday Monday brought an unstable southerly and early starters Roger and Viv had good flights. Those launching later found conditions deteriorating and difficult.

So it was a relatively early finish and on the road home.

Thanks to Gary Albutt for ferrying the tug and towing all weekend. Also thanks to the Horsham crew for coming along, arranging fuel and taking the tug and two seater home. Thanks to Rhonda for helping with administration.

Last but not least, thanks to John Switala, Bruce Salter and the GCV Committee, for helping to organise the tug for us.

Don't forget there are 3 more weekends at Dadswells Bridge :

  • July 14,15
  • August 18,19
  • September 20,21,22,23

Everyone Welcome. At least one two seater is usually available for passenger and general flying. (Pilot in command must be a member of Horsham Flying Club)
