Theory course

A theory course will be held at the Gliding Club of Victoria, State Gliding Centre, Benalla on Saturday 29th to Sunday 30th August, 2009 commencing at 1000 hours.

The course will cover a review of:

  • Lookout
  • Out-landing
  • Basic meteorology
  • Preparation of a gliding forecast
  • Use of the Stuve diagram, RASP& NOAA
  • Sailplane performance
  • Soaring theory and techniques

The course will be under the direction of Graham Garlick.

A light lunch will be provided.

Gold for soaring pilots

A "Gold for Soaring Pilots" cross-country course has been scheduled from Monday 23rd November to Friday 27th November 2009.

The aim of the course is to prepare pilots with no cross-country experience for the  FAI Gold C distance and Diamond goal badge. This will be dependent on the weather.

Intending candidates at the commencement of the course should have at least 40 hours, be endorsed on either the Astir, LS4 and LS7, have completed outlanding checks and be in current practice.

The course will be under the direction of Graham Garlick who will be coaching in the duo-discus. Weather and pre-flight briefings will be given daily.
