Airflow July 2009 - From the committee 2009 07

From the committee 2009 07

by Scott Penrose

To help with communications, the committee is going to produce a monthly update (which will appear in Airflow when it can) and regularly update the news on our web site.

Minutes

Ever had the time to view the minutes on the notice board in Benalla? No? Well now you can view them online. The GCV Minutes will be posted after each meting as soon they are approved. They are available only to members at the following URL:

You can find it the Members Area menu under Member documentation.

Membership subscriptions

Membership subscriptions are due this month (if you pay per year, which is a good idea as it is cheaper). If you pay your subscription by the end of July you are entitled to free glider hire for your check flight before the end of October.

Did you know that you can pay by credit card, cheque or direct debit. Contact Rhonda in the office for further information.

Tractors are go

Our trusty Ferguson Model TE20, designed in the 30s, built up to the 50s, owned by the club (well almost as long as the club has existed), and repaired at the end of the noughties - yes we are sending off our tractor for a little TLC.

STOP PRESS: MCF to be rebuilt

by Robert Dorning

At the GCV Committee meeting on July 16 it was resolved that the Club's damaged Pawnee, MCF, should be rebuilt. Quotes had been obtained from possible repairers, and the Treasurer, Peter Carey and the Vice President, Robert Dorning were authorised to negotiate with the organisations submitting the most attractive quotes and to report back to the Committee with a firm proposal.

At the June Committee meeting a recommendation by the Club CFI, Paul Barber, was agreed to following his investigation of the MCF accident, i.e. effective harness and restraints systems be installed in the Club's tugs. As a result a CAR35 engineer, Bob McGillivray from Edge Aviation in Gippsland has been asked to investigate our tugs' harnesses and recommend replacements as required. It is intended new harnesses will be installed in MCF during its rebuild.

It's early days yet. Members will be informed of progress as it occurs. One bit of good news is that the insurance company has paid up on our claim for the accident.
