Airflow September 2009 - Khancoban 2009

Khancoban 2009

by John Switala

Khancoban is on again this year!  Khancoban is a small township at the base of Mount Kosciusko in New South Wales about two and a half hours drive from Benalla.  It offers great flying around the ranges, over Kosi and the ever present possibility of wave flying.

This year we are organising an event for Saturday 31 October to Tuesday 3 November 2009, Tuesday being Melbourne Cup and a holiday for Melbourne based people.  In the previous two years we have had a week long event but due to the problems in getting enough hands to transport planes and things to and from Khancoban later in the week we have had to reduce the time this year. However, if you feel that you can help out and want to extend your trip there may be the opportunity to extend.  If you want to pursue an extension then its best to contact Peter Gray at petegray@bigpond.net.au to find out what's involved.

A list is available on the notice board at Benalla so get your name on the list so we can adequately prepare for the numbers.  If you can't get to Benalla then perhaps a phone call to Rhonda in the GCV office 03 5762 1058 and ask (nicely) if she can add your name.

Based on numbers we will take perhaps two two-seaters, the Duo Discus and perhaps one other, so there may be the opportunity for a ferry flight.  Plan ahead and contact Peter Gray if you wish to be involved in the ferry flights.  Tugs will also be dependent on numbers. Two tugs seems to be the magic number so get your name on the list so we can plan appropriately.

Look forward to seeing you there.
