Horsham Flying Club's Twin Astir at Colefield with the Grampian ranges and Briggs Bluff in the background
Get you winter woollies organised 'cos the Dadswells Bridge Soaring Camp for 2008 is on the calendar again for another year.
Last season's weather was a mixed bag and we do sometimes get wave, but the main joy of this venue is to experience fantastic ridge soaring and magnificent scenery. Good thermals, off the rock faces on sunny days, are also something you will not get at Benalla during the winter and last year we were able to operate from Colefield all season.
We have commitments from our regular Dadswells participants but would like to encourage others to attend and enjoy the flying commensurate with your experience level. The Horsham Flying Club usually bring over their Twin Astir (Grob 103) and sometimes the Janus 2CM self launcher and are willing to do site checks and accompanied flights along the ridges.
Dr Ted Cole has very kindly made Colefield available for our use again this year. Please note that it is a requirement when using Colefield that each glider has in effect third party insurance to the minimum value of $250,000 and it is your responsibility to conform to the third party insurance requirements. It goes without saying that every care should be made to look after his property and limit damage by driving carefully on the airfield and the surrounding area.
The following dates have been set for our Dadswells weekends.
- June 7, 8 & 9 (Queens Birthday weekend)
- July 12, 13
- August 16, 17
- Sept 18, 19, 20 & 21
Finances
Airfield Operations Liability Insurance, approximately $50 dollars per weekend to be divided between aircraft operating on that weekend.
A landing fee of $5 per day per aircraft to cover field maintenance costs.
GCV tug ferry charges to be divided between participating aircraft. Towing charges will be as set by the GCV. The cost of ferrying will be apportioned (as it is with Khancoban and Mt Beauty camps). The cost of the ferry flights is required to be recovered regardless of the amount of flying we do.
Independent Operators Authority
An Independent Operators endorsement is required to be the pilot in command if there is no Level 2 instructor present. This covers you in case of an insurance claim. For GCV members, the endorsement can be granted by the flying panel if they consider you to be a suitable candidate. However, you can fly the front seat of the Horsham Club's 2 seaters without this endorsement with a Horsham member as pilot in command.
